Remembering Larry Tolle

Dear Rowing Friends:

We’re very sorry to have to inform you that our most fervent Purdue rowing alumnus and best friend, Larry Tolle, passed away this morning from a ruptured aortic aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was over quickly, with minimal suffering.  In fact, he had one last day with his family where he was alert, talking, and reminiscing about rowing events of the last 60 years.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to have had Larry as a teammate, coach, mentor or friend have lost a truly remarkable person.  The all-in lifetime commitment Larry gave to Purdue Rowing was evident in everything he did, both professionally and in his many civic activities.  His energy and enthusiasm knew no bounds, and in every endeavor he worked harder and longer than anyone else to assure the most favorable outcome.

We hope you’ll join us in remembering Larry as the shining example of what it means to be a teammate, whether in sports or in life.  A life well lived, eternal rest well deserved.

Sincerely,

Bruce Blackwell
