Purdue Crew Christens the “Megan Rose”

On November 2, 2019 at the Bald Eagle Collegiate Invitational, team members, family, and alumni gathered to celebrate the christening of the new varsity women’s eight, the Megan Rose. The boat was named as a wonderful surprise for former Coach Kevin Sauer (1979-1982, 1986-1987) and his wife Barb’s late daughter, Megan Rose. They were able to make the trip from Virginia to the ceremony at Eagle Creek Park to reveal the name and christen the boat, surrounded by many of the generous donors who made this special moment possible. After emotional speeches from Coach Dave Kucik, Paul Johnson, Kevin Kiser, and Coach Sauer, the varsity women raced the boat for the first time, carrying with them the spirit of Megan Rose. Purdue Crew is so very excited and proud to begin a new dynasty with this momentous gift and powerful message, as we look eagerly toward the spring season and beyond.
